Since Dewey County does not have its own online registry, the main place to search is the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry. This is the official statewide system. It covers every county, including Dewey County. You can search by name, zip code, city, or county to pull results for registered offenders in the area.

The state database is updated continuously as offenders register or update their information. It is the most accurate source for current registrant data. Each listing shows the offender's name, photo, home address, risk level, and offense information. The state system is free to use and does not require any login.

Dewey County Sheriff's Office

The Dewey County Sheriff's Office is located at 206 Broadway Street, Taloga, OK 73667. The phone number is (580) 328-5558. The Sheriff is the local authority responsible for monitoring registered sex offenders in the county. Offenders living in Dewey County must register with the Sheriff's Office when they arrive, when they move, and at each required check-in interval.

If you want to report a sex offender who is not registering or who appears to have moved without updating their address, call the Sheriff's Office directly. You can also contact the Oklahoma Attorney General's office or the DOC if you believe a violation has occurred. The Sheriff coordinates with both agencies to track offenders and follow up on tips from the public.

Dewey County is a rural, sparsely populated county in northwest Oklahoma. The total population is small, which means the number of registered offenders is also relatively low compared to more urban counties. Even so, state law applies equally in all 77 Oklahoma counties, and every registered offender in Dewey County must follow the same rules as those in larger jurisdictions.

Oklahoma Registration Law Overview

Oklahoma has required sex offender registration since 1989. The current framework is set out in 57 O.S. Sections 581 through 590.2. The law establishes three risk levels based on the nature of the offense and risk assessment results. Each level has different reporting requirements.

Level 1Annual check-in, 15-year registration period
Level 2Semi-annual check-in (every 6 months), 25-year registration
Level 3Every 90 days, lifetime registration
Habitual/AggravatedLifetime registration, every 90 days

The DOC mails non-forwardable registration forms to registrants. When a form arrives, the offender must appear in person to complete it within 10 days. Mailing the form back is not allowed. You must appear in person at the Sheriff's Office or other designated registration location.

Transient offenders with no fixed address must report to law enforcement every 7 days. Out-of-state offenders who come to Oklahoma and stay 5 or more consecutive days must register within 2 days. Moving to Dewey County from another Oklahoma county also requires updating the registration address promptly.

Residency Restrictions

Registered sex offenders in Dewey County cannot live within 2,000 feet of schools, licensed daycares, public parks, playgrounds, or other licensed child care facilities. This restriction has been in effect since June 7, 2006. Distance is measured in a straight line, not by road distance.

In a rural county like Dewey, most areas are far from these restricted locations. But in Taloga and other small towns, there may be fewer compliant housing options because the 2,000-foot radius from a school or park can cover much of a small downtown area. Offenders and their families should verify any address before committing to it.

Violating the residency restriction is a separate criminal offense from failure to register. Both carry felony penalties in Oklahoma. The law does not grandfather in people who were already living at a noncompliant address before the 2006 rule took effect if they move and try to return.

Note: Residency restrictions apply to where the offender lives, not just where they are at any given time. Work location rules may differ. Verify the full set of restrictions that apply to a specific offense with the DOC or an attorney.

Keep in mind that a person may appear on the registry without being easy to find in OSCN if the conviction happened in another state or county. The registry and court records are two different systems maintained by different agencies.

You can also contact the Oklahoma DOC or the Oklahoma Attorney General's office, which has oversight of the sex offender registration program.

Failure to register is a felony in Oklahoma. A first offense can result in up to five years in prison. Subsequent violations carry heavier penalties. If an offender has moved, changed jobs, or acquired a new vehicle without reporting it, that is also a violation. The law requires offenders to keep all registration information current, not just their home address.

Anonymous tips are accepted. You do not have to give your name to report a suspected violation to the Sheriff's Office. If the situation seems urgent or dangerous, call 911 instead.
